The idea behind this project was to photograph people on their commute. The experience we have on public transport made up by random glimpses of
other people and the environment.
I implemented portraiture and continue exploring identity and how that is visually expressed. I used my trusted Canonet QL a 35mm film camera that allows me to photograph people without being noticed, that much, offering me a more candid environment. After a few rolls of film I found that the outcome was
interesting and has prospects of development.
I like to think that this is a form of social documentary as it looks and captures images of peoples behavior in relation to London's busy transport. The images do have a different visual outcome but I still find interesting the difference in peoples' behavior on these two form of
transport. There are also strong visual similarities like the way the bars which play a significant role
in these two environments.
On the buses the people usually gaze
outside as the windows that offer a form of escaping and allows avoiding confrontation with other
passengers, in the tube on the other hand people use newspapers and books in order to pass their
time slightly more constructive and avoid boardroom or confrontation.
